Velvet Ice Cream, an Ohio-based company, has issued a voluntary recall on its entire portfolio of products. A routine check-up found the presence of Listeria bacteria in some of Velvet Ice Cream’s packages and the recall was issued out of an abundance of caution.

The recall includes the company’s ice cream and sherbet products that were distributed to several states. Retailers in Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, and West Virginia should be aware that they may have Velvet Ice Cream products in stock at their stores.

People in southern Madagascar have been reduced to eating wild leaves and locusts to stave off starvation after consecutive drought and sandstorms ruined harvests, leaving hundreds of thousands on the brink of famine, according to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP).

Amer Daoudi, senior director of global WFP operations, warned on Friday the lives of Malagasy children are in danger, especially those under five years old whose malnutrition rates have reached “alarming levels”.

Man robs North Oakland Subway shop of $15 worth of food

OAKLAND A gunman robbed a North Oakland Subway sandwich shop of $15 worth of food Friday afternoon, authorities said.

The robbery happened about 12:05 p.m. at the shop at 6341 Shattuck Ave.

The man ordered a sandwich, a bag of chips and cookies but instead of paying he pulled out a gun at the register and ran off with the food.

He was described as White, 20 to 30, about 5 feet 10 and 200 pounds and was wearing a black hoodie. No injuries were reported.

The Day – Food trucks fest draws crowds in Groton

Groton — Food trucks lined both sides of the lawn, and people gathered to wait in line for their orders, on Saturday at Poquonnock Plains Park.
